After watching the FIFA game of Brazil versus Morocco, I had a thought in regards to war.
Countries start wars over a multitude of different reasons (land, greed, stupidity of leaders, etc). Many people die, both fighters and innocent bystanders, buildings are destroyed, crops wiped out, waters poisoned, & animals are killed and harmed. It is an awful part of the human condition.
What if we could get rid of war and have a better way to solve disputes? My solution: have the country/countries duke it out with their sports team. Since the majority of the world, both men and women, plays soccer, this would be my sport of choice. The games would be held in neutral territory. Both the men and women teams would have to play, with each win earning some concessions in the conflict to the winning country and ties mean both counties need to have an equal compromise.
I know it is not perfect, but battling out our disagreements on the soccer pitch has to be better than killing one another on the battlefield.
